Private health insurance comparison

Compare health insurance without the guesswork

Health cover is hard to compare on price alone. Two policies with the same premium can differ on hospital categories, excess, extras limits and recognised providers, so the lowest cost is not always the best value. Health Deal gives you a free health insurance quote comparison across our panel, then a specialist explains the differences by phone — so “best” means best for your circumstances, not the cheapest number on a page.

  • Hospital cover

Contributes towards treatment as a private patient, subject to the policy’s clinical categories, restrictions, waiting periods and excess.

  • Extras cover

Pays benefits towards services such as dental, optical, physiotherapy and chiropractic, within annual limits and recognised provider arrangements.

  • Hospital and extras

Combines both into one membership. The best value often comes from balancing the two around what you are likely to actually use.

What a Health Deal specialist can help you review

  • Hospital cover categories, restrictions and exclusions
  • Excess and co-payment options
  • Extras benefits, annual limits and providers
  • Premiums for your state and membership type
  • Options for singles, couples, families and seniors
  • Waiting periods you have already served

Health Deal compares policies from a panel of participating funds, not every policy or health fund available in Australia. Health Deal does not provide personal financial advice — information is general only and policy terms should be reviewed before you decide.

Seniors, pensioners and over 50s

Review your health cover as your needs change

For seniors, pensioners and Australians over 50, better value usually means keeping the services you actually use and dropping the ones you don’t. Switching does not re-serve waiting periods you have already completed for equivalent cover. Tell us what matters and a specialist will talk you through suitable options from our panel.

Health insurance comparison FAQs

How much does health insurance cost, and is a quote free?

Premiums vary by state, membership type, level of cover, excess and any rebate or loading that applies to you. There is no charge to request a health insurance quote or comparison through Health Deal. Health Deal may receive a commission from a participating fund if you purchase a policy.

Does Health Deal compare every health fund in Australia?

No. Health Deal compares suitable policies from a panel of participating health funds. We do not compare every policy or every health fund available in Australia, and we make our broker role clear before you make a decision.

Which health funds are on Health Deal’s panel?

Health Deal’s participating panel currently includes Bupa, HCF, Australian Unity, ahm, nib, Peoplecare, HBF, HIF and see u by HBF. Panel arrangements and product availability can change, so the options discussed will depend on what is available when you complete your comparison.

Can I compare health insurance if I already have cover?

Yes. You can review your current premium and benefits against suitable options from our panel. Your existing insurer does not need to be on our panel for you to request a comparison.

Will I definitely save money by switching health insurance?

No. Savings are not guaranteed. A comparison may identify a lower premium, different benefits or a better balance for your needs, but the result depends on your circumstances and the policies available.

Do I have to re-serve waiting periods if I switch?

Generally no. Under Australian rules you can transfer to an equivalent level of cover with another fund without re-serving waiting periods you have already completed. Waiting periods may still apply to any higher or additional benefits you take up.

What should I compare besides the premium?

Consider hospital categories, exclusions and restrictions, excesses, co-payments, waiting periods, extras benefit limits, recognised providers and whether the policy covers the services that matter to you.
